How can I test my English-speaking skills for free?

Learning Mar 13, 2023

Some people learn to speak and sound like native English speakers quite easily, while others find it more challenging. Improving your English-speaking skills is the first step you must take if your goal is to sound like a native English speaker.

But before you can start improving your speaking skills, you must first determine your English-speaking skills at current.

Sure, there are many online tests you can take to determine your English skills, but they won’t be as effective. Google has a wide range of websites and links you can click on that will take you to a free test.

Usually, these tests test your writing, reading, and listening skills, BUT most online tests don’t test your English-speaking skills. That is why the best way to determine your English-speaking skills is to meet with a native English teacher!

Trial lessons

Some Online English courses offer trial lessons with prospective teachers. Enlego.com is the best website to test your English-speaking skills. Why? Because Enlego offers FREE, that’s right, FREE trial lessons!

How to schedule a trial lesson

Before your trial lesson, you must register on the main page. Don’t worry. Registration is also FREE! Once you have registered you will be contacted via email by Enlego’s support team. You will then have the opportunity to book a lesson on any day and time that suits you best. Keep in mind, each trial lesson is only 15 minutes long!

Before your first trial class, you will be contacted by your assigned teacher via Skype. You will be asked to provide some basic information to help make your trial lesson as fun and effective as possible! Your trial lesson teacher will ask you:

  • What English level do you think you are at?
  • Why do you want to take online English classes?
  • What are your English goals?

The teacher will then forward two different links, asking you to pick ONE article from either link. The article you choose will be used to help evaluate your English-speaking level during the trial lesson.

What to expect in the trial lesson

Your teacher will video call you at the scheduled lesson time and start the lesson by briefly introducing themselves.

You will also have the opportunity to introduce yourself and briefly talk about what you do. This part of the lesson won’t take more than 5 minutes.

After the introduction, the teacher will ask you to read the first paragraph of the article you have chosen. While you are reading the teacher will only interrupt you to correct a pronunciation or reading error.

After the reading is complete the teacher will ask you a few easy questions, such as:

  • Were there any words that you read that you do not know the meaning of?
  • Did you understand the topic?
  • Can you briefly explain what you read?

You will be given a chance to ask any questions, whether it be about what you read or how the classes will be structured if you were to decide to move forward by purchasing a course package.

Enlego’s teachers are very friendly and determined to help you reach your English goals. Each lesson is structured and designed to accommodate the needs of the student by helping students reach their English goals.

At the end of each lesson, the audio recording is uploaded along with your progress report based on that specific lesson to allow you to go back and see where you made mistakes and how to improve them.
